A while ago, a friend told me that I needed to share the “perfect margarita” recipe.  I’m not sure if this one is perfect, but it sure is tasty!  My ideal margarita isn’t too sweet, but isn’t so sour that it makes you pucker either.  The white grapefruit gives a great fresh flavor and the hint of herbal basil brightens and imparts a clean finish.


2 cups fresh white grapefruit juice

1/3 cup fresh lime juice

1/3 cup fresh lemon juice

1/2 cup sugar

1 1/3 cup 100% Agave Tequila

3-4 fresh basil leaves (minced)

limes and kosher salt, for rimming the glasses

Make a simple syrup by heating the sugar with 1/4 cup of the grapefruit juice, in a small skillet over medium high heat.  Stir the sugar till it dissolves and then bring the mixture to a slight boil.  Remove it from the heat and allow it to cool in a separate container.  Once cooled stir together all the ingredients, including the syrup.  Prepare the margarita glasses by wetting the rims with the limes and then dipping them in the salt.  Add a few ice cubes and pour in the margaritas!
